Physical Activity and Asthma Outcomes in Urban Children: Differences by Ethnic Group and Weight Status
- Published on May 20, 2019
Asthma and obesity are co-morbid conditions that are highly prevalent in urban minority children. National guidelines recommend at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity for children, and asthma clinical guidelines recommend regular physical activity provided asthma is well controlled. Using objective assessments of physical activity and asthma during a two-week period, we examined the extent to which physical activity and sedentary behavior contribute to disparities in asthma outcomes in a sample of urban children with persistent asthma from African American (AA), Latino, and non-Latino White (NLW) backgrounds.
